Girls & Boys

RECREATIONAL GYMNASTICS CLASS DESCRIPTIONS, AGES 6-12
The teacher to student ratio is 1:8 for beginners and 1:10 for intermediate.  Classes are held at our main Maximum Velocity Gymnastics facility.

Girls Beginner I

Ages 6-12
55 min.

Students are introduced to all gymnastics apparatus, including the bars, beam, vault, and trampolines. Gymnasts will have mastered rolling forward and backward, a handstand and cartwheel before progressing to Beginner Level 2. As gymnasts progress, they will notice an increase in balance, strength and flexibility.

Girls Beginner II

Ages 6-12
55 min.

Gymnasts will already know the fundamentals at this level. Focusing on technique, gymnasts continue to build strength while training new skills and gymnastics dance is incorporated. Gymnasts will have mastered a round off, standing backbend with kickover, a pullover on the bars and have the ability to do basic skills on a medium height balance beam in order to advance to the Intermediate Level.

Girls Intermediate

Ages 6-12
1 hour 25 min.

Intermediate level gymnasts will have progressed through our beginner levels or have been placed there through evaluation. Gymnasts at this level will have mastered the basics and will begin to link skills together to form short routines. Back handsprings and running tumbling are introduced and gymnasts will use the vault table, high bar, and put tumbling on the beam.

Boys Beginner I

Ages 6-12
55 min.

Students are introduced to all Men’s Gymnastics events; the high bar, pommel horse, parallel bars, vault, rings, and floor. Gymnasts will have mastered rolling forward and backward, a handstand and cartwheel before progressing to Beginner Level 2. As they progress, students will notice an increase in balance, strength, flexibility and endurance.

Boys Beginner II

Ages 6-12
55 min.

Gymnasts will already know the fundamentals at this level. Focusing on technique, gymnasts continue to build strength & power while new skills are incorporated. Gymnasts will have mastered basic tumbling, key positions & shapes on rings and parallel bars, proper swing technique on the high bar, and have a strong hurdle & board hit on vault in order to advance to the intermediate level.

Boys Intermediate

Ages 6-12
1 hr. 25 min.

Intermediate level gymnasts will have progressed through our beginner levels or have been placed there through evaluation. Gymnasts at this level will have mastered the basic skills and will begin to link skills together to form short routines. Back handsprings and running tumbling are introduced and gymnasts will begin to develop more advanced skills on each apparatus.
